The green peafowl (Pavo muticus) is a species of peafowl native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia and is listed as an endangered species in the Red Book. I photographed this bird during my trip to Vietnam. Distribution: The natural range covers northeastern India, Myanmar, some areas of the Indochinese Peninsula, and the island of Java. Habitat: It prefers to stay away from human settlements, inhabiting various areas including tropical and subtropical forests, bamboo thickets, and meadows; in the mountains, it can be found at altitudes of up to 3000 m. Threat of extinction: The global population of the green peafowl is rapidly declining due to habitat loss and hunting, and the species is at risk of extinction.
